Heritage in Practice
TPG in partnership with Heritage Perth hosted a series of ‘Heritage in Practice’ seminars. The Autumn Series focussed on conservation skills and techniques and was attended by a wide variety of professionals, trades people, owners and custodians of heritage places here in Perth and from the regions.
The level of interest in the practical aspects of conservation as well as the range of expertise that is available indicates that this is an area of heritage practice that is steadily growing here in Western Australia. A number of experts in the industry and in academia spoke at the events, which focussed on the restoration of timberwork, maintenance and remediation of masonry structures and concrete façade restoration.
These seminars reinforced the importance of ‘getting it right’ to enable our tangible heritage to have a long-term future. As the restoration and adaptive reuse of heritage buildings grows apace in our city, it is good to know that we have the people with the expertise and enthusiasm to ensure that future generations will be able to appreciate the historic gems we pass on to them.
